1. The weather is helping firefighters in California: the winds are calmer today. That's good news for the crews battling the blaze. It's now 40 percent contained. Four firefighters died fighting the flames. A 5th is still hospitalized.
2. A protest turned deadly in the Mexican city of Oaxaca leaving an American fatally wounded. Shots rang out when armed gunmen tried to move protectors' barriers. Bradley Roland Will was shot in the abdomen and died at a hospital. He worked for Indymedia.org.
3. Pope Benedict told Irish bishops that sex abuse by clergy inflicted deep wounds and that the bishops must do whatever is necessary to prevent future offences. It's the first time Benedict has spoken on the issue since he became pontiff.
4.S and O were thrilled when they discovered they were going to have twins, but they were shocked when doctors handed over one black baby and one white.
