1.President Bush declared a major disaster for Southern California, funneling money to people with wildfire losses not covered by insurance. Some residents are returning home, not sure if the homes they left are still standing. San Diego officials say property damage could top one billion dollars.

3.In Florida, state police investigators say police were justified in using a taser against a college student. Andrew Meyer disrupted an event with Senator John Kerry, an incident caught on tape. The two officers involved have been reinstated.
4.Thieves were caught on surveillance tape, making off with this brand new boat on land. They cut chains and hauled the 26-foot vessel away in the early morning hours. Police are now on the lookout for these boat thieves.
