1.Michael Hayden is warning that al-Qaeda has developed a safe haven in the region between Afghanistan and Pakistan. The CIA director also touched on Iraq, saying it could be years before the government there might be able to function without the help of American forces.
2.Meanwhile, al-Sadr has said he's pulling his fighters off the streets throughout Iraq. That's after days of fighting between Iraqi forces and Shiite militias in Basra. Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is calling the statement "a step in the right direction".
3.And presidential candidate Barack Obama has taken up bowling. The Illinois senator hit the lanes in Altoona as part of his new emphasis on low-key, face-to-face campaigning. But Obama assured the crowd his economic plan is better than his bowling. He bowled a gutter ball and ended the game with the score of 37.
