Thousands of people have attended another protest rally in the Hungarian capital Budapest for what's thought to be the biggest demonstration yet in a week of protest against the government. Reports suggest that up to 50, 000 filled a square outside the Hungarian parliament building, demanding the resignation of the socialist Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsany, who's admitted that his government misled the public in order to win elections earlier this year. Our correspondent Nick Thorpe reports from Budapest.

The movement to remove Ferenc Gyurcsany from office now has its own colour: white. After the Orange Revolution in Ukraine and the Rose Revolution in Georgia, the organizers of the permanent rally in front of parliament have appealed to participants to add a white ribbon or wear a white item of clothing to symbolize, in their words, the need for truth and non-violence in the face of the prime minister's lies. Mr. Gyurcsany's Socialist Party has hit back, accusing the opposition Conservative Party Fidesz of responsibility for the protests and for the violence earlier in the week.

The Russian President Vladimir Putin has sought to reassure France and Germany about the security of Europe's energy supplies. With the European winter approaching, Mr. Putin told French and German leaders Jacques Chirac and Angela Merkel that energy cooperation was a high priority for his government. Speaking at summit talks in Paris, he said Moscow would meet its obligations to its EU partners.

There won't be any clash with our traditional transit countries. We have no such plans now or for the future. We have no deficit in our domestic market and we don't plan to reduce the volume of transport through our traditional transit countries. Russia intends to fulfil all its duties towards all its partners in Europe.

Concerns were raised at the beginning of the year when Russia temporarily cut supplies to some European customers during a row with Ukraine over prices.

A bomb has blown up a fuel tanker in the Iraqi capital Baghdad as people were queuing to buy kerosene. The blast ignited a fire ball killing at least 35 people and wounding about 30. Many of the victims were women, all were civilians. A man who ran to help said he found the body of a mother clutching her child, both of them burned to death. In another incident, the severed heads of nine Iraqi soldiers and police are reported to have been dumped in a town north of Baghdad.

A new code of conduct has been drawn up in the Italian city of Milan to prevent fashion models becoming too thin and to protect young women in the industry. The code will require models to carry a medical certificate confirming they are healthy. A city official said the measure was aimed at persuading modelling agencies and stylists to move away from what she called the phenomenon of anorexia. Mark Duff reports from Milan.

Milan's first woman mayor Letizia Moratti has backed the campaign to ban Anorexic looking models. On the Milan's new code which is due to come into force in time for the next fashion week in February, models will have to carry a medical certificate showing they are healthy. In addition, younger school age models will have to be accompanied by a tutor or guardian. The new code also aims to ban rogue, unlicensed, modelling agencies that trap young women into trading sex for hopes, rarely fulfilled, of a life in fashion.

The British composer Malcolm Arnold who wrote music scores for more than 130 films has died after a short illness. He was 84. Sir Malcolm won an Oscar in 1958 for the music to the war drama The Bridge over the River Kwai. He also composed a number of ballets and symphonies and two operas. His death comes as his ballet The Three Musketeers was giving its premier at the Alhambra theatre in Bradford. Anthony Meredith who co-wrote a biography of Sir Malcolm was at the performance. He said the composer's appeal was universal.

Malcolm is one of the great British writers of the symphony, one of the great 20th century writers, and his 9 symphonies are still waiting to be discovered. And in fact tonight, we've heard quite a number of extracts from them and, I mean the audience absolutely absorbed in this for some wonderful music; he has also crossed over music. Malcolm relates to every member of society. He is not the sort of middle-class composer; he is a composer for everybody. And I think we heard that again tonight. He appeals to all sorts.

And archaeologists in Peru have discovered the mummified remains of dogs buried alongside their owners up to 1100 years ago. The animals were found in the tombs of the Chiribaya people, first known to have lived in southern Peru around 900 AD.
