    BlackBerry manufacturer Research In Motion faces stiff competition from Apple and others in the smart phone market.

    Will the battle continues between the BlackBerry and its competition? So what`s ahead in this smart phone sector? Can research in emotions stay ahead of the rest or other, other competitors encroaching on it? Stay with me now is David Garrity, he is a director of research at Dinosaur Security, David, thanks for joining us.

    It`s been a pretty incredible run for rim over the past year, so can they keep this momentum up or do they have to sort of pull back a little bit.

     

    Oh, research in emotion is certainly a very advent, *`s position, giving them one that is very strong in terms of business market, but soon they are making very meaningful progress in terms of the consumer market. And the thing for investors really focus on here is that when you`re looking at wireless service providers, whereas the * wireless as the AT&T`s, typically these companies find that smart phone customers have much higher daily usage, which generally dries a much higher bills and obvious dries higher profit margins. Meanwhile people maybe raising concerns in various places that, you know, consumers are becoming more strafed, to the extend of these feels to be so little subsidy, enter the extensive of being bigger probability with them, expect the cell phone companies to heavily push this product.   

     

    Do you expect that being issue when we are * into other markets? Apple`s doing with the I-phone, RIM`s certainly doing with the BlackBerry. Where maybe those subsidies won`t play such a big fact *be this phone to * you can back on that in all the markets.

     

    Our view is that the subsidies can be very significant unless we indicated the early usage levels, quite high. (Yeah.) Relative to other phones, for the wireless service providers, not the usage dries billions, dries revenues in a standpoint * in a record economy, obviously companies are just trying to find a way to maximize everything they can.

     

    When we talk about this steady use, we`re really focusing on cooperate e-mails, something that RIM has nailed down, but Apple says * were working on that offers as well. What happens if and when Apple does develop that offer? What happens to RIM?

     

    What happens to RIM is that RIM`s going to have to consider what they can do with their * standard? This site to make it open so they can start to have developers come in and add more in the way features. Certainly we saw that Apple with the I-phone, G3, 3G, introduction, that they work, making obviously very big plate to talk with the other independent software developers *out there. (Oh, yeah.) And we also saw recently, that NOKIA in buying a half of soft provider, * for their phones so certainly gonna making their product free. We also know that Google would enjoyed, so removing with the situation here we are gonna find that the software standards are more open, and trying to improve, and trying to bring about creativity, trying to provide great choice that consumer. And research in emotion will have to make that choice of some point time. However, we would think that research in emotion giving the strongest they are in the business market, doesn`t necessarily have to make that choice immediately.

     

    Now, right now, you know, finally, some other competition out there, beyond Apple, a lot of people saying Microsoft has the technology to really push them out of the water if you will, do you think that they have to look after for other competition and where else can they grow outside the BlackBerry or C*.

     

    Well, when you are looking into global cell phone market in access, a billion and a half units annually, and was still finding smart phones at a very low number that less than 10%, and in giving some attraction of very * place points in margins, yes, there is a lot of competition growing with market for market. We`ll say that with respect to Microsoft, Microsoft is trying to push Windows in terms of compact vision, er, for quite some time, it has had * like same sites of supporting them doing that, well, you really haven`t found Microsoft really successful, in terms of providing something that the consumer really is willing to pay off, was there are potentially a research in emotion product or an Apple product, or possible a prompt product, or you know even in some cases, a NOKIA product.
