Hi, good Friday to you, I’m Veronica De La Cruz here at the CNN center in Atlanta. Let’s take a look at what is happening NOW IN THE NEWS.
Three Duke University lacrosse players are no longer facing rape charges. Prosecutors dropped them this morning. The three still face charges of kidnapping and sexual offence. Their accuser claimed she was raped at a team party where she was hired to perform as a stripper in March.
A 48-year-old man has formally charged been charged with killing five prostitutes in England. Stephen Wright appeared in court today. Another suspect Tom Stephens was released on bond this week. He was not charged in the slayings. The nude bodies of the five women were found in Ipswich earlier this month.
Some snowed-in travelers at Denver’s International Airport may finally be on their way in about two hours. Flights are expected to be limited, so some international travelers may not get home for Christmas. Colorado interstates are also becoming drivable again.
An Ohio couple will spend time behind bar for keeping some of their eleven adopted children in cages. Less than an hour ago, a jury found Michael and Sharen Gravelle guilty of child endangerment and abuse. The verdicts carry prison time of one to five years. The couple claimed they kept some of the “special needs” children in cages to protect them from each other.
A flash flood warning for New Orleans is in effect until noon local time today. Heavy rain drenched Jefferson Parish with one than a foot of water. It’s part of the same storm system that has dumped all that snow in Denver. Pumping stations are having trouble keeping up, causing traffic backups at flooded intersections.
Well the Space Shuttle Discovery is set to return to Earth today, NASA says it doesn’t yet know where it'll land. It is rainy and cloudy at Florida’s Kennedy Space Center. And there are crosswinds at the next best option, Edwards Air Force Base in California which leaves NASA's third choice, White Sands, New Mexico where the forecast is better.
That’s gonna bring you up to date. For more on these stories and other news of the day, don’t forget that CNN is your source online, on TV or when you are on the go.
