You may never heard of them over here, but in the East Golden Horse awards are massive. There are star studio occasion for the Chinese speaking world with top talent from Taiwan, Hongkong and China turning out each year for the red carpet event. The big winner at this year's competition was Ang Lee's steamy Lust Caution.
He picks up seven honors including Best Director and Best Film. The movie is about a Chinese woman tasked with killing a Japanese collaborator in Shanghai during World War II, and with the favorite going into the starts of the event. Lee has said he isn't optimistic about his film chances in the rest of next year of the categories is the film hasn't been as well received in the United States as elsewhere. In part, due to its sexual conduct, that is resulted in an adults only rating.
To me, when I get reward, special movie like this, this is acceptance from the audience that really make me feel very, very deep. I don't know if the excitement is the right word for an end.
Lust Caution has been stopped from entering the Oscars under the foreign film reward for Taiwan, because the Academy ruled that its cast was too international.
