Disi Dieudonne, the Rwandan who at the weekend in Lagos won the Lagos International Half Marathon has plans to use his 50,000 dollar first prize money to prepare for next year's Olympics in Beijing, China.
Running in a packed field of some of the best marathoners in the world, Dieudonne out-paced the Kenyans and Ethiopians earlier favoured for the crown. He clocked one hour three minutes and five seconds to leave the second and third places for Chebet Wilson (1:03:18) and Festus Langat (1:03:28) both of Kenya, local media reported Monday.
"I am very happy winning here today. It was not an easy race but my training helped me to overcome all the other top runners also in contention for the No. 1 position. With this 50,000 dollars, I can now prepare very well for next year's Olympics in China," Dieudonne said.
Asked if he has his eyes on the Olympic gold, Dieudonne, took a long breath and said, "I always talk in the positive. This is not the time to think negative. I am very positive of getting the gold in Beijing. I don't fear Kenyans or any other nation when it comes to races," he said.
